The waiting continues… It’s been almost a week since the biopsy of the adrenal mass was done and the results are still either unknown or uncommunicated.  I made Mom call the Dr.’s office to get the results on Tuesday since it seems illogical that it would take 6 days to get the analysis done.  Apparently the Dr. still doesn’t have the results back from Mayo.  The Oncologist’s office did send her a packet of information including an appointment card for next Wednesday, 3/12. 

Mom and I have two different approaches to medical care.  She is more patient and respectful than I am.  Having worked in hospitals for many years and having gone through a number of medical issues myself, I know that things fall through the cracks and if you don’t take charge of advocating for yourself, nobody else will.   I also believe that if you take the initiative to learn about your condition you will either totally piss off your physician, or you will gain their respect.  Some don’t want you to ask questions or challenge them, others find it refreshing to talk to patients who are educated and ask appropriate questions.  

Experience has taught me that it’s best to not piss off doctors who wield knives for a living. 

And it’s always a good idea to bring gifts to your anesthesiologist because they can decide if you will spend 48 hours of your life puking up every internal organ you have left.

Time will tell what style Mom’s doctors will have.  So… no news is no news.  We’ll just hurry up and wait some more.
